Obituary for Lois Smith

December 21, 1935–November 30, 2018
We lost a most beloved, kind and generous, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbour today. Lois Mabelle (McConnell) Smith passed away at the Drew Nursing Home late Friday evening, November 30, 2018, following a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Saint John, N.B. on December 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Mabelle (Shaw) and Robert McConnell.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, Lois will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Ronald Smith; her children, Lori (Philip) Ritcey, Lynda Smith, Jamie Smith and Jeffrey (Amy) Smith; her grandchildren, Brad and Laura Ritcey, Mitch Smith and Alexandra Smith.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Gertrude, Eleanor, Barbara and Jean, as well as by her brothers, James and Robert.

Lois was a member of the Sackville United Church and the UCW, as well as a Charter Member of the Lord Sackville Chapter IODE and enjoyed curling, playing bridge and rumoli. Lois was a first–rate cook, an avid vegetable and flower gardener, an animal lover and a kind and loyal friend. Travel was also a big part of Lois’s life. In 1966, she and Ron and their four children, set out for Nigeria for two years. Quite the adventure! During this period, the family travelled extensively throughout Europe.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364–8188. A Celebration of Lois’s life will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 1 to 3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lois may be made to a New Brunswick or Nova Scotia SPCA, DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue or to any animal rescue of your choice. Lois would be comforted to know that animals in need would be cared for.

Online condolences and sharing of memories may be forwarded to the family through our website www.campbellsfuneralhome.com or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.
