Obituary for Susan Botten

1947–2018
It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of Susan Claire Botten, Monday, December 17, 2018.

Sue leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Don Botten; her two sons, John F Lindsay–Botten (Vanessa) and Dr David L Botten (Dr. Lori Ann Wong); son–in–law Dennis Atwell, all of Halifax, N.S. along with six grandchildren; Isabel, Mariella, Barrett, Kate, Mia and Allie who were all her cherished joys. Also left to mourn the loss of their big sister, are her brothers; Ralph W Macdonald (Jean–Anne), Colin L Macdonald (Glenys) and Ian A Macdonald (Wendy) and sister in law Opal Macdonald. Sue's father David C Macdonald, his brother Dr Glen Macdonald, her “Special” Auntie Claire, after whom she was named, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews will all feel the giant hole in our family fabric left by Sue's passing.

Sue was predeceased by her brother Stuart, March 2016, her daughter Karen, July 2016 and her mother Marion, July 2018.

Sue was the oldest child and only daughter of Marion (Withrow) Macdonald and David C Macdonald and was born in Springhill, N.S. on August 11, 1947. Sue was the big sister to four younger brothers moving with Mom and Dad from Springhill, NS. to Moncton, NB. to Saint John, NB. and then finally back to Riverview, NB. in 1960. Sue graduated from the 1st graduating class of Riverview High School in 1965 and then from The Moncton Hospital School of Nursing in 1970 where she forged many great life long friendships.

Sue and Don were married in 1970 and raised their family for 12 years in Scarborough, ON, before moving back to Riverview.

Sue was always the organizer, cheerleader and support staff for many, many family functions and gatherings as well as High School and Nursing reunions. Sue's tremendous serving, attention to detail and giving nature are legendary with all who knew her. She will be greatly and dearly missed.

Sue's family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb's Funeral Home, 330 Whitepine Rd, Riverview on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church, Cleveland Ave, Riverview with Reverend Steve Berube and Reverend Dr Andrew O'Neil officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sue's memory to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, St. Paul's United Church Building Fund or Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Online condolences can be expressed at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca
