Obituary for George Ayer

March 16, 1940–January 26, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of George Ayer announces his passing on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital. George passed away at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sackville, NB, he was the son of the late Gerald Milton Ayer and Kathleen Lucinda (George).

George was a farmer, truck driver and enjoyed working in the woods. He loved spending time at the beach at the cottage in the summer along with having a vegetable garden. George was also a volunteer board member with the Four Corners Cemetery.

George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 14 years, Evelyn (Melanson); his son, Jeff (Wanda); his daughter, Shelly (Doug Haley); his step–daughter, Monica Lielasus, all of Sackville, NB; his sisters, Margaret McPhee of St. Stephen, NB and Dorothy (Rodney Smith) of Sackville; three grandchildren; two step–grandchildren; six great–grandchildren, as well as by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son, Derrick, as well as by his sister, Joyce.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville N.B. (506) 364–8188. In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 1 to 2 pm. The celebration of life service will take place at 2 pm with Pastor Mark Reece officiating. The burial will take place in the spring in the Four Corners Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation or Auxiliary, Middle Sackville Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society, Friends of the Moncton Hospital or to the charity of one’s choice.

Online condolences and sharing of memories may be forwarded to the family through our website www.campbellsfuneralhome.com or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.
