Obituary for Walter Savoie

1926 - 2019
Moncton, NB – Walter Savoie, 92, passed away peacefully at the Villa du Repos in Moncton on Friday, February 8, 2019. Born in Pointe-Verte on March 18 1926, he was the son of the late James and the late Adèle Guitard and the husband of late Laurette Mercure (2007).

Walter was a horse merchant for more than 50 years. He also contributed to the development of his home village through community involvement in many ways. He was a member of several organizations, which included parish committee, the Co-operative Movement, the Caisse Populaire and the School Board. He was mayor of Pointe-Verte from 1971 to 1980.

Walter will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Jocelyne (Albert Ferguson) of Fredericton and Diane (Pierre LaForest) of Memramcook; one brother, Martin (Blondine) of Pointe-Verte; one sister, Macrina (late Laurent McNeil) of Montreal; four grandchildren, Eric (Lisa Rubini), Marc-André, Sophie Catherine (Rémi Ducharme) and Amélie; one great-grandchild, Esmé; also by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Laurette, he was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Marie-Mai (1981); two sisters, Blanche and Audrey, and six brothers, James, Clarence, Edgar, Gordon, Michel and Roger.

Funeral service will be held at the Saint Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Pointe-Verte, NB on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11am. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.

In memory of Walter, donations to the Alzheimer Society, Parkinson Canada or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Villa de Repos for the excellent care given to their father during his last four years. A special thank you to Alice, who visited our father regularly, which greatly contributed in making his days more pleasant and comfortable.
