Obituary for Marguerite Smith

It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of Marguerite Helen (Wright) Smith which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019. Born 1931, in Canterbury, NB, she was the daughter of the late Murchie and Catherine (Ritchie) Wright.

Marguerite worked as a File Clerk with NB Tel for 17 years before retiring in 1991. She was an NB Tel Pioneer and a Brownie Leader. Marguerite was a member of Westfield United Church and the UCW. She enjoyed camping, she loved to cook and her family was her pride and joy.

Marguerite is survived by her loving and devoted husband Paul of 69 years; sons Wilfred (Tanya) of Saint John, Eldon (Kathy) of Grand Bay-Westfield; brother Austin Wright (Patricia) of Saint John; sister Joyce Gibson (Merlin) of Woodstock, NB; grandchildren Jeremy, Jordan, Nancy, Crystal, and Matthew; great-grandchildren Clara, Cameron, Tanner, Noah, Douglass, Eden, Owen, George and Jenna; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents, Marguerite was predeceased by her sisters Mildred, Edith, Minnie, Ethel, Winnie and Barb; brothers Bill, Clifford, Bob and Clint; special friends Clarence, Barry, Sheri, and Elizabeth and dogs Zoey and Jake.

A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital, especially Palliative Care, for the care and compassion given to Marguerite and her family. Thank you to Christine and Hennessy the angel dog (the white golden retriever therapy dog) for your unexpected visit. Thank you to Rev. Kate Jones, Rev. Sue Gamblin, Westfield United Church Congregation and neighbours. Your Kindness will not be forgotten.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Visitation will be held at Fundy Funeral Home on Friday, May 10th from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel beginning at 6 p.m. A private interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marguerite may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to the charity of the donor’s choice. To send a message of condolence please visit www.fundyfuneralhome.com
