Obituary for Arlene Dernier

(1920 - 2019)
With great sadness, her family announces the passing of Arlene Dernier on Tuesday, May 8, 2019 at the age of 99. Beloved wife of the late Willard Dernier (1974) and daughter of the late Hazel (Lockhart) and Richard Mitton.

Arlene lived a long and happy life surrounded by family and friends and enjoyed many happy summers at the family cottage at Caissie Cape. She loved to chat with friends and family to learn about and share their passions and joys and was always ready with an insightful question. She was an avid reader of the daily newspaper. Her joy and genuine interest in the world filled everyone around her with wonder.

She was a long-time member of Mountain View United Church, a Life Member of the Westmorland Chapter of IODE and a past member of the Moncton Probus Club.

Arlene will be dearly missed by her three daughters Ginny Hill (Tim) Moncton, Ann Nickerson (Gary) Riverview, Kathy Newton (Robert) Ottawa, her three cherished grandsons, Jason (Rachael), Derek and Gregory all of Ottawa, special great-granddaughter Karissa and several nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family; predeceased by her sisters Lillian Heron and Mabel Brace, brothers Edward "Ned" and Robert "Bob" McBeath.

Her warmth, compassion and love of life will remain in the hearts of everyone she touched. The family would like to thank Sue, Kelly and the wonderful staff at Serenacare where Arlene lived life to the fullest for over three years. They will forever be considered part of our family. Special thanks to wonderful Dr. J. Cormier as well.

A service to celebrate and honour Arlene’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment will be held in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Greater Moncton or Mountain View United Church Building Fund in memory of Arlene would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences for the family may be shared on the Funeral Home Facebook Page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
