Obituary for Joseph Coholan

August 6, 1923 - May 7, 2019
We are very sad to announce that our sweet father and Mom's wonderful husband, Joe (Bo) Coholan has passed on to his heavenly home.

The Staff at the Veterans Home helped Dad stay comfortable and peaceful throughout his final days. Special thanks to Bob, Veronica and Gaeten for keeping Dad moving and participating in the day to day activities. Also to Peter Ford and all the staff at Fords Pharmacy.

Dad came from a large (11 siblings) Irish family and grew up in Saint John, NB. His father, Alphonse Patrick, was a tailor and then moved to Moncton with London Life as an Insurance Sales Representative. His mother, Genevieve "Genny" nee Brown was a busy mother, wife and homemaker. Joe enlisted in WWII in 1941 at the tender age of 17 and was stationed outside London, England at Camp Borden. After the war, he went to work at No. 5 Supply Depot as a civil servant. He successfully passed many Government Competitions to achieve a Level 8 certification and retired at age 71. He organized many work golf tournaments and also played on a bowling team called the Paper Clips. He loved parties, fun and playing poker, Bridge and crib which is why we all learned to play cribbage at 5 years old.

He was a man of Faith and enjoyed teaching Marriage Preparation courses and religious classes for Catholic converts at the Catholic Information Centre.

He loved Mama Charlotte his wife of 70 years and worked so hard without complaining to support his five kids. Kathryn, his eldest daughter who passed away in 2015, was married to Charles LaChance and they had a beautiful daughter Genny. Brenda retired from a 40 year career with General Motors in Saint Catherine's in 2010. Mary who lives in Halifax was successful in dental hygiene before finishing a bachelor of science and an MBA from university of Toronto. Jeannie, who lives in Bedford, has worked as a sales representative for such companies as Kodak, Abbott labs and currently Stork (Werther's). Patrick, the youngest and only son, has had a successful 40 year career with Maple Leaf. Pat and his wife Murielle of 32 years (who passed away in 2018) have two wonderful kids, Steffanie and Alexandre.

We hope that Dad enjoyed his 95 years of life as much as we enjoyed sharing it with him.

Visitation will be at Tuttles in Riverview on Saturday, May 11 from 2 to 5. Funeral service will be at St. Bernard's Church on Botsford Street in Moncton on Monday, May 13th at 11am.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview, NB (506) 857-8564 Online condolences can be made at www.tuttlefuneralhome.ca
