Obituary for Ricky Arbeau

The world has lost some of its light with the passing of Ricky Charles Brent Arbeau of Fredericton on May 11, 2019 following a valiant battle with cancer. Ricky was the youngest child of Fred and Beulah (Estey) Arbeau, born February 8, 1960. He excelled in sports, and many remember his magnificent slap shot as well as his consistent ability to hit a ball out of the park.

Rick passionately enjoyed his life and the people around him. He made life long friends wherever he ventured. His generosity, humor, loyalty, sportsmanship and ethics were all memorable. We knew him as a good man who adored his family and also loved getting together and spending time with his many friends. He loved sports, but was especially fond of racing, and he was a common fixture at the Speedway 660 campground in Geary. Rick’s excitement at the racetrack was contagious, and his unique style of cheering racecars on will always be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know “Ricky Bobby.” The fact that there is an annual race at Geary known as the “Ricky Bobby 150” indicates how special he was to so many.

Rick is beloved by his wife, Jill Rogers; his children Josh (Andrea) of Burton; Ricky Jr (Brittany) of Lincoln and Brittany (Denise) of Fredericton; step children Kristen Cando of Edmonton and Michael Cando of Miramichi City. He also is survived by siblings Donald (Colleen) of London, ON, and Peggy (Ronnie) of Fredericton; Derrick Estey (Brandy) of Boiestown, Carl (Gail) Estey, Jeffrey Estey, and Rodney (Penny) Estey of Penniac. His beautiful grandchildren Tyler Arbeau, Annabelle and Andriauna Arbeau, and Daxton Arbeau will miss their grampy.

Rick was predeceased by his parents, his sister Donna (Estey) Carhart, and step brother Roger Estey.

We take comfort in knowing that Rick is now surrounded by light, free from struggle and pain. Our grief over losing him is infinite. And now so is he.

Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, Brookside Drive on Tuesday, May 21 from 3 to 7 pm. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at Speedway 660 in conjunction with the Ricky Bobby 150 on Friday, July 12. Additional details on the celebration will follow.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice Fredericton or the Saint John Regional Hospital- Radiation Unit.

We thank our family and friends for so many kindnesses during Rick’s illness. Special thanks to our Speedway 660 racing and camping family, Mélissa of Extramural and Dr. Tom Barry. You made our journey over the past 15 months much easier.

Personal condolences may be made through www.yorkfh.com
