Obituary for Hugh Riley

We are sad to announce the passing of our dear father Hugh Geoffery Riley on May 11th, 2019 at the Fredericton Veterans Health Unit. Papa was dearly loved by so many and will be sorely missed. The patriarch of our entire Riley clan at almost 104, he leaves a huge void. Papa was predeceased by his dear Bunnie (Gladys Hancox) Riley, his wife of nearly 54 years.

Dad leaves behind his children, Sharon - his daughter, companion and caregiver the last several years, Denice (Rod Copp), Garth (Monique) and Judy (Dennis Melanson), his precious grandchildren, Jeremy (Miranda), Corey (Jenna), Geoffery (Sherilyn), Dustin and Alicia, his many dear great-grandchildren, and a special young woman Bianca Langille. He will be dearly missed by his brother Pat Riley and sister Mary Lewis, sisters-in-law, Louise Steward and Mary Hancox, as well as his many nieces, nephews and all the greats. Family and friends of the heart meant everything to papa.

Special thanks to the caring and compassionate folk at the Priestman Unit, who were a constant source of comfort and support to not only Papa, but to our entire family. They made it a beautiful and loving second home.

Following Papa's wishes, he was cremated and there will be no visitation. We will gather for a celebration of Papa's life on May, 25, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Hope City Church, Fredericton, N.B., when all the family can be present. Love and gratitude and reaching for your dreams are the legacy he leaves.

In lieu of flowers, donations in papa’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Wildlife Federation.
