Obituary for James MacKenzie

“Jim” MacKenzie of Brighton, Ontario, passed away at the Belleville General Hospital on April 8, 2019 (age 83 years). He was the son of the late Roy and Frances (Sheasgreen) McKenzie of Sunny Corner, New Brunswick.

He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife Gretta (the former Margaret Mary Whitton), daughter Maureen Avola and grandchildren Matthew Avola and Nicole (Jeremy) Goldberg; sisters Alma Murray (Moncton), Agnes Copp (Fredericton), Patricia Wilson (Fredericton), brother Thom McKenzie (San Diego, California), special cousins Robert (Fredericton) and Richard Sheasgreen (Sunny Corner), and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his sister Joan Marie McKenzie (CND).

Jim was a graduate of St. Thomas University in Chatham, NB and worked many years for Crown Life in Toronto and Regina, retiring to Brighton after a long career. He was also a long–time member of the Lion’s Club and Knights of Columbus. In his later years, Jim enjoyed researching family histories particularly those related to the Miramichi region and compiled many volumes of information which will help preserve family histories in the region for years to come.

Funeral Mass was held at Holy Angel’s Roman Catholic Church, 40 Centre Street, Brighton, on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto at a later date. Care arrangements were made by the Brighton Funeral Home (613–475–2121).
