Obituary for Mary Dorcas

Mary Leila Mildred Dorcas (nee Foreman) born June 2, 1935 in Ward Settlement, NB and passed quietly in her sleep May 8, 2019.

Mary is predeceased by husband Leslie, October 10, 2015.

She is survived by daughters; Kathy, Linda (Don) and Kim; grandchildren Krista (Jordan), Candice (Tony) and Clayton; great–grandchildren; Clayton, Amelia, Florence and Jameson; sister Joyce Logan (Don) and brother Allan Foreman (Joanne), nieces and nephews.

Mary grew up in rural New Brunswick attending a one room school house with family and nearby neighbours. And yes, this Mary had a little lamb until it was decided to make a meal of it, for which she never forgave. She refused to eat lamb for the rest of her life.

She met and married Leslie Dorcas of Williamsburg, NB on December 30, 1953. They took up residence in the "Burg" late 1959 on a small, mixed farm right next to Leslie's childhood home which was occupied by Les's younger brother Vernie, Mary's childhood pal, Doris and their brood. What a family we all made! In order to support his family, Les was required to work off farm leaving Mary to tend the kids and animals which she did faithfully. It was a hard life but there were lots of good memories made along the way.

In July 1969, Les moved the family to Prince George, BC. What an adventure for a farm girl who had never travelled more than 100 miles from home. Mary took up the challenge of helping her daughters adjust to living in the city. For many years she worked with BC Housing supporting the residents and sharing her life advice.

In 1992, Les and Mary retired to Campbell River, BC following daughter Linda and her family where they spent the remainder of their time.

Mary is remembered for her determined attitude, strong parenting skills, quick wit and chocolate cake, baked beans and homemade doughnuts. Boy, could she make one awesome chocolate cake!

Mum spent her final years in the care of the Discovery Harbour Seniors Community in Campbell River. The family is very grateful for the care and attention provided by the staff.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
