Obituary for Raymond Joseph Harquail

It is with sadness the family announce the death of Ray Harquail of Saint John, who passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 17, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Born in Petit Rocher, NB on May 3, 1946, he was the son of the late Theodore and Ernestine (Hachey) Harquail. In his early days Ray served in the Canadian Armed forces and Royal Canadian Air Force as a Corporal following an honorable discharge in 1969, he became a Master Plumber & Pipefitter; working for over 45 years. Ray was a member of the Union Local #213, Assumption church and choir, KOC 4th Degree. He was known to some of his family as “Heat Wave”, he enjoyed music, fiddle and guitar, traveling to Cape Breton; he was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping at TNT. Ray was a talented craftsman and carpenter and devoted family man. His family and friends will miss him forever.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years Sandra (MacDougall) Harquail; sons Kelly of Saint John, Scott (Vibhuti) of Quispamsis and Kyle (Sarah) of Saint John; precious grandchildren Jamie, Zoe, Andrew, Isabelle and Emma; brother David of Bathurst; sisters Barbara Boyle (Danny) of Ontario and Theresa Mawhinney (Richard) of Maces Bay; life long friend Cameron MacInroy; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Along with his parents Ray was predeceased by his brothers Theodore and Clifford and sister Florida Grant.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646–2424) visitation will be held on Monday, May 20 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Assumption Church 360 Dufferin Row on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Grant and the wonderful nursing staff of the CAM unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital and to Monseigneur Brian Sheehan for his spiritual guidance.
