Obituary for Brenda Johnson

The passing of Brenda Carolyn
Johnston, wife of Reece Johnston of
L'Etete NB occurred peacefully at her
residence on May 20, 2019. Born in
L'Etete NB on February 19,1942, she
was a daughter of the late Horace
Oscar Hooper and Maxine Ellison
(Leslie) Gillespie. A loving wife,
mother, grandmother, great–
grandmother and sister, in addition to
her loving husband Reece, Brenda is
survived by her daughters: Heather
Johnston and Annette Johnston both
of L'Etete NB; grandsons: Brandon
Thompson and Jordan Thompson; one
great–grandson: Ezra Legacy; siblings:
Gary Hooper (Muriel) of Uxbridge ON
and Linda Tucker (Ted) of L'Etete NB;
one half brother: Grant Hooper of Back
Bay NB; one half sister: Hope Hooper
of Fredericton NB; several aunts,
uncles, nieces,nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Brenda was
predeceased by her stepfather:
Charles N. Gillespie; one brother:
David Gillespie.

Brenda was a selfless soul who took
great pleasure in taking care of others.
She enjoyed being a stay at home
Mom until her daughters were old
enough and then she took on a career
in mostly the retail sector, including
with Eaton's and Sears when the
family lived in Ontario. While in
Ontario, Brenda kept active in her
community. She often attended her
daughters baseball games and was
always keeping busy with some sort of
activity. She enjoyed travelling with
Reece and they took many winter
vacations to Florida. Upon returning to
New Brunswick to help care for her
family, Brenda enjoyed cooking,
tending her garden and keeping her
family in line. She always put family
first and was a hard worker up until the
end. A true matriarch, her love,
guidance and friendship will be truly
missed by her family.

Resting at the St. George Funeral
Home (755–3533) 26 Portage Street,
St. George NB on Wednesday from 6–
9 pm. The service will be held from the
Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday at
2:00 pm with Rev.Jonathan Hatt
officiating followed by the interment in
the St. George Rural Cemetery.

In Brenda's memory, donations to
Charlotte County Cancer or to the St.
George Food Bank would be
appreciated by the family. Online
