Obituary for Raymond Hilchie

1942 – 2019
The family of Raymond Hilchie are saddened to announce his passing on Sunday, May 19 at his home, two weeks after his 77th birthday. Ray was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on May 5, 1942. His father Avery met and married Mary Putt while on his “foreign posting” to the Rock and they moved to Nova Scotia, where Ray grew up in Pope’s Harbour until he joined the Canadian Armed Forces.

While Ray was posted to CFB Gagetown, he met his future wife Myrtle (Donnelle) and they spent more than 55 wonderful years together.

Ray loved wood working and many people have wonderful mementos he made for them—wooden urns, benches and shelves. He also loved to go to the races at Speedway 660 in Antigonish and Laudon, NH. He enjoyed attending Soup’s On every Thursday and regularly met with “the boys” for coffee.

Along with his loving wife Myrtle, Raymond is survived by his sons, Rickey (Karla), Danny (Nancy) and Allan (Cheryl); grandchildren, Brooke and Cole Hilchie, Jordan and Connor Hilchie and Kristen Grim; twin sisters June and Etta, brothers, Ralph, Wayne, Wilson and Charlie, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Raymond was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Avery; several nephews and a niece.

The Hilchie family would like to extend their appreciation to the First Responders from the Oromocto Fire Department, the Oromocto Ambulance Paramedics and the staff at the Oromocto Emergency Room. A special thanks to Dr. Shelley Caines for her kind words.

A gathering in Raymond’s honour will take place at St. John’s Anglican Church Hall, 60 Broad Road, Oromocto, NB on Saturday, May 25 from 1 to 5 pm.

For those who wish, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Association or to the donor’s choice in Ray’s memory. Online condolences may be placed at www.oromoctofh.com.
