Obituary for Joan DeLong

It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Joan DeLong of Saint John who passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 8, 2019. Born in Saint John on July 22, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Frances (Jenner) DeLong.

Joan worked for Saint John Regional Hospital for many years. Although she did not have children of her own, she cared for many children. Joan loved traveling, watching CBC News, reading the daily newspaper, listening to the radio and cooking. Family and faith were most important to her as she was a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church for her entire life.

She is survived by her loving sister and best friend Kathleen DeLong of Loch Lomond Village; special great-nephew Glenn Garnett (Julie) of Baxter’s Corner, nephew Peter DeLong of Saint John; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

Along with her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brothers Murray, Gerard, Don, Cecil, Raymond and Vern and her sister Dorothy Halman.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Stella Maris Church 201 Bayside Drive, on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 12 Noon. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
