Obituary for William McKiel

It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the passing of William "Bill" McKiel on June 7, 2019 at the Campbellton Hospital at the age of 87. Bill had given cancer a real fight for the last several years, but God decided it was time to take Bill peacefully to his heavenly home. Born on May 18, 1932, Bill was the son of William and Daisy McKiel.

Survived by his longtime partner Joyce Moore, as well as his children Christine, Alan (Leona), Greta (Paul), Timmy (Denise) and Tammy. Predeceased by baby boy Wade and daughter Juanita. Bill was the oldest of seven children. Survived by his sister Daisy Whalen, better known as Teedie, and her husband John as well as by sister Barb Dix. Bill has seven grandchildren; Julie, Cindy, Jean-Claude, Jason, Tyler, Jasmine, and Tanner, along with four great-grandchildren; Brooke, Brandon, Kaylie, and Jaden. Predeceased by brothers Howard (Bud), Joe, and Bruce as well as his sister Sandra Ross.

Bill was a very active Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19 and was on the Executive Board. His fellow members said Bill would help with everything and was always available when needed. Bill officiated the funeral services for all the Veterans.

Bill was well known for his dry humour and storytelling and enjoyed making people laugh. Never one to forget a joke, he had quite the collection.

Bill had a zest for life. He loved socializing, music and a good beer. He looked forward to the summer to travel with Joyce in the recreational vehicle to take in the Blue Grass festivals. In the winter, Bill and Joyce would enjoy ski-doo trips.

Bill had many friends throughout his life and was very kind and giving; always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Although he suffered for years with cancer, he was never one to complain and instead kept a positive outlook.

Bill will be dearly missed.

The funeral service will be held at the Maher’s Funeral Chapel, 64 Lansdowne St., Campbellton, on Friday, June 14th at 1:30 pm. Immediately followed by a graveyard service at the Glen Levit United Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tree of Hope would be appreciated by the family.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton (506) 789-1699 or toll free (855) 404-1699 email: maher.fh@nb.aibn.com
