Obituary for Nina Gouthro

1929 - 2019
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Nina Mae Gouthro, 90, of Moncton, on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont UHC after a bravely fought battle with cancer. The eldest daughter of the late Camille LeBlanc and Mamie (Casey) LeBlanc, she was born in Moncton on March 10, 1929.

Nina is survived by daughters: Patrice Carter (Dana Pellerin) and Susan Johnson (Glen) both of Moncton, and Ruth Steeves (Dale) of Riverview; son, Jeffrey (Cindy Marchand) of Riverview; grandchildren: Colin Carter (Tiffany), Ian Carter (Jena), Allie Johnson, and Connor Johnson; step-grandchildren: Kelly MacDonald (Danny), Jessie Smith (Robert), Ryan Marchand; several great-grandchildren; sisters: Alice Gough of Riverview, Camilla LeBlanc of Ottawa, and Andrea LeBlanc of Montreal; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by husband, Wilfred (2004); sisters: Vera, Pam and recently, Marjorie; and step-granddaughter, Chelsea Marchand.

Nina graduated from the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in 1951, and spent her early career working in the OR at the Hotel Dieu Hospital. She went back to nursing later in life and spent a good part of the 70’s and 80’s at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital, predominantly in Labour & Delivery, which she enjoyed very much.

After living in Riverview for most of their early marriage, Nina and Wilf retired to Shediac (Edgewater and Cornwall Point) where they met many new friends and participated in the Cross Country Ski Club, crafting groups, canoeing and other adventures. Nina went on to make more new friends at her most recent home, Camden Park Terrace.

She was a very talented needle-worker, from quilting to cross-stitch to more intricate needlecrafts. Nina enjoyed visits from the grandkids and great-grandkids, and always had lots of baking on hand.

The funeral service will be celebrated at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 11:30 am, with Father Allison Carroll officiating. Visiting hours are from 10:30 am until time of service. A reception is planned following the service.

If desired, donations may be made to the CHU Dumont Foundation (Palliative Care or Oncology), or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Words of comfort and donations can be made at www.frenettefuneralhome.com
