Obituary for James Quigley

On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, James Alan Quigley passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, N.B, he was a son of Eva (Lewis) and the late Charles Quigley.

James was an avid outdoorsman. He loved gardening, his tractor, feeding the birds, and being out in the woods. He lived life to the fullest and the most important thing to him was his family, taking them camping, having bonfires, travelling, or just spending time together. He had a big sense of humour, which he passed along to his children.

James began his career as a surveyor assistant with Murdoch Lingley Ltd as a young man. He moved on to Kierstead Surveys and later Kierstead, Quigley and Roberts Ltd, where he worked until retiring at the age of 60.

James is survived by loving wife Lynn (Purdy); son Derek; daughters Ashley Fox (Craig) and Jamie Lee (Russell); brothers Douglas (Wanda), William, John (Beth), and Richard (Debby); sisters Lorraine Reid, Judy Price (John), Linda Robinson (George), Janet Chiswell (Paul), Valerie Marshall (Robert), and Patricia Marr (Brian); granddaughter Hailey Fox; brother-in-law Paul Pay (Nancy); fur babies Carter, Sadie, Buttercup, and Fluffy as well as several nieces and nephews.

Aside from his father, James was predeceased by his brother Charles Jr.; nephews Anthony Robinson and Joel Chiswell; niece Karen Quigley; In-laws Frank and Freda (MacNamara) Purdy.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Cameron, KV Extra Mural, and the amazing staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their care of James.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (634-7424). Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2019 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 from the Brenan’s Chapel at 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in James’ memory may be made to the SPCA, Summerville United Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.BrenansFH.com
