Obituary for Patricia Johnson

With great sadness the family announces the passing of Patricia Idella Johnson, age 88, of Fredericton.

Pat was a truly graceful person who loved and was loved by all who knew her. The ‘quieter’ half of a marriage partnership that spanned 64 years with the love of her life Don, she was the planner, the comforter-in-chief and a person with warmest smile that made even strangers feel like they had known her for years.

Born in Clarks Corner, N.B. on April 20, 1931, she was the daughter of Albert and Florence (nee Briggs) Carle. Predeceased by her husband, Donald Johnson in 2016, she is survived by daughters Kathy Watt (Murray), Fredericton; Lynn Whalen (Bill), Moncton; and Joy Johnson of Rhodes Corner, Nova Scotia.

Pat is also survived by three brothers, Bob Carle, Minto; Glendon Carle (Ferne), Lincoln; and Dale Carle (Brenda), Fredericton; sister-in-law, Myrna Kelly of Fredericton; and brother-in-law Willis Johnson (Doris), Fredericton; along with several nieces, nephews and special cousins.

She adored her seven grandchildren who will miss her love and her hugs; David Watt (Amy) and Amy Parrill (Mark) of Fredericton; Kate Whalen (Dustin Linden) and Matt Whalen, both of Halifax; Julia Whalen (Jeremy MacArthur) of Toronto; Geoffrey Burgoyne, Lunenburg, NS and Ryan Burgoyne of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, as well as their dad, Rick Burgoyne. Great grandchildren, Blake and Charlie Parrill; Cassia, Jaxson and twins Anderson and Alexa Watt, all of Fredericton. Additionally, she will be missed by her “4th daughter”, and special friend, Rhonda Bemrose.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant sister Helen Marie.

Pat and Don were married in June 1951 and in 1961 Don was transferred to Fredericton and the young family built a home on Oriole Court in Silverwood a place they lived and loved for over 50 years. Don and Pat remained in their home until April of 2015 when they moved to Shannex Fredericton.

Pat was a proud employee of the Province of New Brunswick for over 30 years, having worked in various departments before retiring from the Premier’s Office in 1991. In retirement she and Don travelled extensively and enjoyed many wonderful times in their fifth-wheel camper. She was United Baptist by faith and was an active member of the Island View Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Shannex, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and Hospice House Fredericton for the wonderful care provided to Pat.

Resting at York Funeral Home, Brookside Drive. There will be no visitation. The Funeral Service will take place at Greenwood Drive Baptist Church on Monday, June 17th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Reception will follow. She will be buried next to Don in Upper Hainesville Community Cemetery, at a later date.

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Island View Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
