Obituary for Kendrick Lacey

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dr. Kendrick Lacey announce his death at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the age of 68. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the cherished husband of Deborah Lacey of Fredericksburg, NB.

In addition to his loving wife, Deb, Kendrick leaves his sister, Randi Corey (Ed); Deb's daughter, Vanessa Stapleford; nieces, Kendra Gilmore (Gregory), Hannah, Elizabeth, and Rachel Barrett; nephews, Aaron Corey (Cassie) and Donnie Young; great-nieces Aevys and Charlotte Corey and Gracie Gilmore; great-aunt, Vera Green; mother-in-law, Mary Barrett; sister-in-law, Jennifer Young (Paul); brothers-in-law, David Barrett (Alexandra), Gordie Barrett (Kim), and Roger Savoy; best furry friend, Pepper.

Kendrick was predeceased by his parents, Verner and Pearl (Ingalls) Lacey; sister-in-law, Tanya Barrett.

Physician, soldier, teacher, mentor; Kendrick was an extraordinary man. Kendrick was a proud veteran of Canada’s Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, serving in Canada and in Germany with 3 Mech Commando. After receiving his medical degree from Queen’s University, he returned to active duty with his Regiment as Medical Officer. Upon his retirement from the forces, he began a new chapter in his life as a rural family doctor in Stanley, NB, where he served his community until his retirement in 2017. He loved his patients. In his spare time he loved to cook, work in his garden, and was the author of two published books. He was also a talented cabinetmaker. He will be deeply missed by his family.

A special thank you to Kendrick's friends and colleagues, Dr. Roberto Gonzalez, Dr. Kate Hadley, and nurse Nancy Schuttenbeld for their kindness and caring through this difficult time.

Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York St., on Wednesday, June 19, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A memorial service will be held from Grace Memorial Baptist Church on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Dr. Peter Lohnes will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kendrick's memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation. Online condolences can be made at www.mcadamsfh.com.
