Obituary for Frederick Harley Ritchie

1940 – 2019
Frederick H. Ritchie, 79, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2019. Whether it was the cancer or the cure, his body could no longer continue to carry on. Hope and determination doesn’t always win the battle.

He will be missed by his loving wife of almost 54 years, Gayle Ritchie, his daughter, Elizabeth (Stephen) Dow and his son, Sean (Sheila Chiasson) Ritchie, his beloved grandsons, Benjamin Dow and Jacob Ritchie and his precious granddaughter, Rachel Dow. As well, extended family, cousins, nieces and nephews will feel the loss.

He was predeceased by his father, Frederick H. Ritchie Sr., his mother, Hazel (Ayles) Ritchie, his brother, David Ritchie.

He may have died, but let’s remember how he lived. He was born in Moncton, a proud Moncton High graduate, and attended UNB where he graduated from Civil Engineering in 1967. He was a Civil Engineer for the City of Moncton for thirty one years before he retired. He knew that every season had a sport, and he participated in most of them. Whether he was on the ice or the ball field, maybe playing, possibly officiating, or in the stands watching his grandchildren play, he gave it his all. He loved fishing and hunting, as well as gardening at the camp. The motorhome took them on the road around the province and excursions to the Island. He lived with undeniable passion in everything. It will leave a hole in the hearts of all who loved him.

A special thank you to the kind caring provided by Extra–mural, Palliative Care, Oncology, and so many doctors and nurses.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, (858–1995). Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Fred’s life at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Scott Ryder leading the service. A reception to follow in the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment will be held in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, Friday, July 19, 12:30 pm.

If desired, donations to the memory of Fred can be made to West Lane Baptist Church or the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences for the family may be shared on Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
