Obituary for Archibald Wayne Smith

It is with deep sadness that we announce the very sudden passing of Archibald Wayne Smith, on Sunday, January 06, 2019, at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, AB. Known as Wayne to all his family and friends, he was born in Sussex, NB on Sunday, May 28, 1944 and raised in Searsville, NB. He was the eldest child of Jean (Crealock) and Fred Smith. He attended school in Springfield and attended the Maritime Forest Ranger School, graduating in 1966.

Wayne lived in Hines Creek, Alberta for almost 40 years. Over the span of his working career he had worked for Forestry in NB and AB, and also for Forestry related companies. He loved his work and had a special love for all things wood. He enjoyed exploring, fishing, painting, designing (drafting) and building items small to large.

Wayne believed it was important to give back to the community. He kept himself active with Volunteer Fire Departments, End of Steel Museum, the Agricultural Society, United Church, any activities the boys were involved in, and of course helping Joan and others at school.

He loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. He was especially grateful to be able to return to NB for summers and spend time at the cottage (a continuing make work project).

He leaves his family, wife of 50 years, M. Joan Smith (McLean); Son, Bradley (Deanne), grandchildren Cameron, Makayla and Hailey of Grande Prairie, AB; Son, Brent (Stracey), grandchildren Evan and McLean of Penhold, AB ; siblings Leah of Sussex; Ronald (Dale) of Saint John, NB, and Allan (Elizabeth) of Kingston Peninsula, NB; extended family and a community of friends near and far.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Garry, and Joan’s parents (Irene and Donald McLean).

The family invite you to a service of interment and remembrance on Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Simon and St. Jude Anglican Church Cemetery, Belleisle Creek, NB. (#11, Route 875). A time of fellowship will follow at the cottage. Directions will be made available.
