Obituary for George Merrithew

It is with deep sadness but many fond memories that the family of George W. Merrithew announce his peaceful passing at his home in Fredericton, NB on July 21, 2019.

George is survived by his wife, Shirley, three children, Barbara (Gilles), Brian (Jennifer) and Andrew as well as his three grandchildren, Cecilia, Adam and Jaden. Born on July 16, 1936 in Fredericton, NB to Oswald and Effie (Fox) Merrithew, he was also predeceased by his brother Lorne Merrithew, sister Louise Warman and his first wife, Marie (MacDonald) Merrithew.

George joined his father at the family business, Merrithew’s Appliance where he was proud to work for over 60 years. He enjoyed being in the outdoors with his loyal dogs fishing, duck hunting and watching sunsets. George also took immense pleasure in spending time with his family sharing stories, laughs and great meals.

As per George’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service, however, the family would like to invite all to drop–in on Thursday, July 25, 2019 between 6:30 and 8:30 pm at 578 Broad Street, Fredericton to say hello and share memories with them.

Bishops Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton NB, have been entrusted with the arrangements and online condolences and sharing of memories may be made at www.bishopsfuneralhome.com

In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory, can be made to the Canadian Lung Association or Chalmers Foundation Inc.
