Obituary for Barbara Jean Groundwater

Barbara Jean Groundwater, 84, of K. E. Spencer Memorial Home, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Monday, July 22, 2019. Born in Lansing, Michigan, she was the youngest daughter of the late Therlo Max and Lilian Bernice (MacRae) VanBurger.

Barbara was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, knitting and doing jigsaw puzzles. She loved playing Scrabble, Skip–Bo and Mexican Train with her family and friends. Barbara was a member of Hillside Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Seniors and Ladies groups.

Barbara will be sadly missed by her husband of 40 years, Gordon Edgar Groundwater; her children, Margaret Ann (Gary), Cynthia Lee (George), James Byron (Samantha), Geraldine Louise (Sheldon), Trudy Robin and Shane Richard (Margaret); stepsons, Carl, Eric (Jeannette) and Ken (Aline); 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Foster; infant sister, Margaret Ann and infant daughter, Lilian Randall.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Walsh and RN Mary Brien of the Acute Emergency Care at The Moncton Hospital for the care given to Barbara.

Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858–1995) on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Service to celebrate and honour Barbara’s life will be held from Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 11:00 am. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment will be in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hillside Baptist Church Building Fund, the NB Lung Association or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Online condolences for the family may be shared on the Funeral Home Facebook page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
