Obituary for Ronald Garfield Butler

At home, surrounded by his family, Ronald Garfield passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2019. Born August 9th, 1928 in Saint John, N.B. to the late Rose Ellen (O’Brien) and John James Butler.

Ronald was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Frances Mildred Butler in 2018.

Ronald was the oldest living retired firefighter of the Saint John Fire Department, having served for many years out of Station 6 on the West Side of Saint John, he enjoyed sharing fond memories and stories from his career. He took pride in being a devoted 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus – Council 8094. The role he loved the most was being a ‘Papa’ to his grandchildren and great grandchildren for over 30 years.

He will be deeply missed by his son; Jack (Anne) Butler, daughter; Tina Sewell (Bill Hall) both of Saint John, N.B., grandchildren; Lauren, McKenzie, Kaitryn, great grandchildren; Zoe and Axel, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, N.B. E2M 2L3. 506 634 1701. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1st between 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Castle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on August 2nd at 10am from Our Lady of Assumption Church. A reception will follow at Castle “Fallsview” Reception Center. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.

Donations in memory of Ronald can be made to the SPCA, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences can be made at www.castlefh.com
