Obituary for Edith Roy

September 13, 1920 to July 31, 2019

Remembering a beautiful, strong, patient, and kind woman that inspired our family. She accepted everyone, trail blazed as one of the first female accountants in Canada, served over 85 years with the Girl Guides. She was a life member of the United Church Women and shared her passion for music with her children and her piano students. Her adventurous spirit led her to trying new things like learning to fly at 18 and playing a new card game with her great grandsons at 98.

Edith grew up in Halifax where she attended Bloomfield High School and Dalhousie University (Kings College). She worked in the accounting department at Imperial Oil and Bostich Canada. She married the love-of-her-life, Delphis, in 1956, and together they started their family which grew to five children. Edith and Delphis traveled extensively and enjoyed many adventures around the globe. People were drawn to her warmth and humour as was demonstrated by the numerous life-long friends with whom she regularly corresponded and visited. Anyone visiting her home was warmly welcomed with a cup of tea and a sweet treat. Over her nearly 99 years on this wonderful planet she inspired those around her and loved generously.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years Delphis; children, Julia Anne Roy (Scott) Stony Plain, AB, John Marc Roy (Kathy) Saint John, NB, Carole Edith Hope (Jamie) Shortt’s Lake, NS, and Ruth Hélène Roy (Terry) Bedford, NS; Grandchildren, Linsey Hope (Derek), Joshua Roy, Megan Dybka (Jesse), Scott Hope (Jenn), Jennifer Roy (Colin), Nicholas Roy, Brian McLea; Great Grandchildren, Trent, Fynn, Keith, Cooper, Mabel and Everett. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edith was pre-deceased by her parents, Harry and Eleanor Murphy; sisters, Gladys (Clark) Mullock and Blanche Potter-Creighton and son, Wade Kendall.

Visitation will be at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Lower Sackville Dr. on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm. A celebration of her life will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at 11am.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Knox United Church where the funds will, in part, be used to send children to summer camp.

Online Condolences may be made at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com (Sackville Chapel)
