Obituary for Heather Ann Murphy

1949–2019
Heather Ann Murphy (nee Drysdale) 1949–2019 of Riverview passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Thursday, August 8, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Heather was a loving wife, mother, sister, nanny, aunt and friend. She had a beautiful smile and would always stop to say hello and loved to talk. She loved baking for others and was known for her infamous “Chocolate Brownies”. She enjoyed taking drives with her husband and stopping by Tim’s for a coffee. The joke was that Pat was driving “Miss Daisy”.

In her early years, Heather worked for the Department of Justice and the Department of Immigration in Halifax, NS. After relocating to Riverview and taking time to raise her family, Heather worked for the Town of Riverview as a Crosswalk Guard where she treasured all the children she crossed over her 25 year career. She knew each of them by name. Heather was also a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Riverview and a member of the Catholic Ladies Society where she served as secretary for many years.

A special thanks to all her friends, Lady Society members and Rummoli group. Thank you for stopping by with beautiful flowers, blankets/quilts, cards, books, wonderful food and tasty treats. But most importantly, thank you for providing support and the gift of friendship. Those moments always made her smile and her family is truly grateful.

Heather was predeceased by her parents, David and Muriel Drysdale and sister–in–law Janice Drysdale all of Halifax, NS.

Survived by her husband, Pat of 47 years, daughter Rhonda (Todd) of Calgary, AB, son Sean (Sheila) of Middle Sackville, NS and son Timothy (Stacey) of Riverview; Brother Brian Drysdale of Halifax (Mary); sister–in–law Mary Davies of Fredericton as well as two nieces and two nephews. Her grandchildren Jenna, Nolan, Rylee, Sawyer and Maggie will miss her dearly.

We wish to thank Dr. Ghedira, Dr. Filice, Dr. Williams, Dr. McCaw and the team of kind nurses at theOncology Dept at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital, Extramural Care Team and the Palliative Care Unit at the Moncton City Hospital for their gentleness, compassion and care. A special thank you to Dr. J Enright for her support, guidance, and empathy. Heather enjoyed her doctor visits because of you.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview, NB (869–2007) on Sunday from 1:30 to 4:00 PM, with parish prayers and sharing of memories to take place at 3:30 PM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 5 Fatima Dr., Riverview on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Father Charles Broderick presiding, with reception to follow at the church hall. Interment will take place at Alderwood Cemetery.

Donations in Heather’s memory can be made to the Oncology Department of Dr. George L. Dumont University Hospital and / or the Moncton Hospital Palliative care unit. Online condolences can be expressed at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca.
