Obituary for Irene Long

Irene Mildred Grace Long, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2019, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on June 10, 1930 in Gaspe, Quebec and grew up in Moncton, NB. She married her beloved Walter in August of 1950 who predeceased her in 2018. They spent their life together in Fredericton.

She started working in the Bank of Montreal in Moncton in 1947 then moved on to the Fredericton branch after she got married and left there to work at the Bank of Nova Scotia until she retired in 1975 so she could focus on being a grandmother. She was also very active in her church for many years.

Irene loved her God and loved her family more than anything else. She would start every day reading her Bible and praying. She would spend the rest of her day making sure her family and home was well taken care of. She had such a servant’s heart and spent her life helping others. She loved to cook, sew, garden and travel. Most off all, she loved spending time with her family.

Irene was survived by her sister Alice Vezina; her three sons Forrest (Patsy), Russell and Michael (Mary); daughter-in-law Karen Long; grandchildren Angela (Anthony), Matthew (Annie), Jeff (Katie), Greg (Linda), Carrie and Wendy, plus seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Walter, youngest son Daniel Long, grandson William Long and brother Lorne Doody.

A visitation will be held at York Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm. A private graveside funeral will be held for the family and close friends on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11 am at Sunny Bank Cemetery.

Donations in her honor can be given to the charity of your choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
