Obituary for Ronald Gillespie

Ronald C. Gillespie, 93, of Moncton NB, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, August 18th, 2019. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (Cooke) Gillespie.

Ron’s devotion to his family was first and foremost. He was very involved supporting and volunteering in each of his children’s activities and he always encouraged them to pursue their goals. He was a man of strong Catholic faith and was a role model for his family and all who knew him. He was always very generous with his time and supported many organizations and associations within the community. He looked for the best in others and gave the best that he had.

Ron graduated from St FX University in 1951 and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at TUNS. He went on to work, in various capacities, at the Canadian National Railway. He retired as the Regional Engineer of Operations in 1989 after 39 years of service. Following his retirement, he joined CANAC International as a Consulting Engineer where he worked for an additional 6 years. Ron was a lifetime member in the Professional Engineers Association as well as the American Railway and Maintenance–of–Way Association.

Ron leaves behind to celebrate his life, his loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine (Morrison) Gillespie; daughters, Terry Morrissey (Alf), Kathy Goobie (Matt), Ronda Mann (Mike) and Pam Wilson (Mark), all of Moncton; sons, Charles Gillespie (Kim) of Grand Lake NS, Stephen Gillespie (Cindy) of Edson AB and Paul Gillespie (Melody) of Sylvan Lake AB; grandchildren, Chris Morrissey (Jaime), Mark Morrissey (Kerry), Karrie Rushton (Derek), Kelsey Goobie, Ryan Goobie (Vanessa), Kristen Gillespie–Purtell (Daniel), Chris Gillespie (Tristyn), Emily Mann (Norm), Marissa Mann, Thomas Mann, Patrick Mann, Sophia Gillespie, Morgan Gillespie, Mary–Madison Gillespie, Molly Gillespie, Katelyn Wilson and Cameron Wilson; great grandchildren, Kassandra and Tyler Morrissey, Jack and Harper Rushton, Lennen and Lincoln Goobie, Brynlee Bain and one more on the way.

The family would especially like to thank the wonderful caregivers who have provided excellent care and support. We would also like to thank Dr. Julie–Eve Arseneault and the Extra–Mural team, who’s professionalism and compassion were beyond expectation.

Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858–1995) on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019 from 2 to 6pm. Funeral Mass to celebrate and honour Ron’s life will be held at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church (Botsford and Queen Streets) on Friday, August 23rd, 2019 at 11:00am with Rev. Allison Carroll presiding. Reception in the Church Hall following Mass. Internment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.

In memory of Ronald, donations to a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Online condolences for the family may be shared on Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
