Obituary for Roland Chandler

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roland Allison Chandler on August 18, 2019 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Roland was born in Saint John on January 10, 1930 to the late Wallace and Edna (Amburg) Chandler and was the loving husband of 65 years to wife Virginia (Suckow) Chandler.

Roland was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for over 23 years and fought in the Korean War serving as a Dragoon. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53 and the Korean Veterans Association. Following his retirement from the Armed Forces, he worked for Irving Security for 22 years. Roland had a love of small engine repair, so in his leisure time after retiring from security, he would spend time in his shop in his backyard and fix anything that he could find or that friends would bring him. He was his own person and to know him was to like him. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by his sons Wayne (Cindy) and Wallace; daughters, Sandra (Tom) Forsythe, Susan Chandler and Pamela Chandler; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister Leola Janes as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his four brothers and sister Louine.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646–2424) where visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm with a Veteran’s Tribute beginning at 7pm. A Celebration of Life will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 12 pm with interment to follow in Fernhill Cemetery.

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.fundyfuneralhome.com.
