Obituary for Ronald Traer

Dartmouth, NS - Ronald Stewart Traer, age 83, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 with family by his side at Parkland at the Lakes Lewis Hall nursing home, Dartmouth NS. Born on December 19, 1935 in Chatham N.B., he was the son of the late Howard and Edna (Stewart) Traer.

Ron worked many years in sales for both Glidden and PPG. He loved spending time with his late wife Roberta “Bertie” (Graham) Traer and family; relaxing, golfing, and hunting at the family farm in Williamstown NB and cottage in Parlee Beach NB. He was an avid runner out of the Halifax YMCA and competed in many races including the New York Marathon.

Ron is survived by his son Dale (Debbie) Traer, his cherished grandson Cameron Traer, all in Waverley NS; his stepmother Florence (Appleby) Traer, sister-in-law Jackie Taylor-Mullin, sister-in-law Joanne Traer, brother-in-law Lou Walsh all of Miramichi NB, sister-in-law Willa Traer of Fredericton NB, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his brothers; Keith (Willa) Traer, Daryl (Joanne) Traer, and sister Jo-Edna (Lou) Walsh.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Marilyn Miller (cousin), Dr. Gina Burgess, Parkland at the Lakes Lewis Hall Nurses and support staff, the QEII and Dartmouth General Hospital staff for their compassion, care and support over the years.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and family will gather to remember Ron Saturday, September 7th 11:00 to 12:30 at Port Wallis United Church Dartmouth followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM with Rev. Ivan Gregan officiating. Interment will take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens after the service for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s memory to either Port Wallis United Church or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.coleharbourfuneral.com
