Obituary for Velma Crabb

Velma Pauline (Croft, Smith) Crabb, wife of the late John Jack Crabb passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born May 03rd, 1922 she was the daughter of the late St. Clair and Anita (Colp) Croft.

Velma was actively involved with the Zion Lutheran Church in Lunenburg, NS, teaching Sunday School for twenty four years, as well as singing in the church choir. In 1969 she moved to Westfield Rd. in Saint John, NB and became a member of St. Ann’s Anglican Church until the amalgamation of several small churches and the building of a new church in Grand Bay–Westfield in 2008. This new church would be named the Church of the Resurrection— a name chosen by Velma. During her years as a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Velma was a lay reader, a choir member, and a member of the Tuesday Afternoon Bible Study Group.

Velma was predeceased by her parents, her first husband; Clyde R. Smith, second husband; John Jack Crabb, daughter Glenda (Wilson) Morash. The eldest in a family of nine, Velma was predeceased by brothers; Seaworth, Trueman, Wilfred, Calvin, Gelvin, sisters; Selena, Madelyn, Evangeline.

Surviving are daughter; Cynthia (David) Wentzell, step-daughter; Charlotte (Paul) Roberts, step-son; William “Bill” (Sharon) Crabb, grandchildren; Jill, Carla, Larry, Sandra, Brenda, Mark, John, Jeffrey, great-grandchildren; Christie, Darcie, Christopher, Rachael, Matthew, Broghan, Landen, Michael, Owen, Justin, great-great-grandchildren; Brody, Emmett, Theo, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4th, 2019 from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held from the Church of the Resurrection, Grand Bay-Westfield on Thursday, September 5th, 2019 at 10 AM. The service will be followed by a reception at the church. Interment will be at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
