Obituary for Byron Spilman

The passing of Byron Clair Spilman of Nashwaak Bridge, NB occurred on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 5, 1948, he was the son of Jean (Fraser) Spilman and the late Byron Spilman.

Byron worked with Spilman Builders and King Construction in a career in the Construction Industry that spanned greater than 50 years. He was an avid and accomplished sportsman, and participated and coached sports in the Stanley community his entire life. He was very proud to have been involved with the Stanley High School basketball programs, a member of two provincial softball championship teams, one maritime softball championship team and two provincial basketball championship teams.

Besides his mother, Jean Spilman, Byron is survived by his children, Troy Spilman of Nashwaak Bridge, NB and Lori Anne Spilman of Stanley, NB; the mother of his children, Sandra Spilman; three grandchildren, Cole Spilman, Kelsey Spilman and Amber Wilson; sister, Beth Sparkes (Ron) of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL; chosen sister, Jean Fraser and chosen niece, Dallas Mazalin of Calgary, AB; niece, Melanie Sparkes of Clarenville, NL; nephew, Adam Sparkes of Calgary, AB.

A Funeral Service will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 3 pm with the Rev. Lyn Hughes officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Craig Clarkson (nephew), Bernie Clarkson (friend), Barry Calhoun (friend) and Artie Logan (friend). There will be a remembrance reception with tea-coffee-treats after the service.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Stanley Consolidated Senior Ladies basketball team (Lady Blue Devils). Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
