Obituary for Paul Edward Blaney

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Paul Blaney, loving husband of the late Jacqueline Blaney, which occurred on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in 1933 in London, England, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy (Westmuckett) Blaney.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Paul was a gifted stained–glass artist who co–founded P & B Stained Glass Studios in 1964, which he owned and operated until retiring in 2007. In addition to his own business, he also instructed stained glass courses for 20+ years for the City of Saint John Parks & Recreation Department and after retiring, offered workshops during the summer of 2008 at NBCCD.

Examples of his work can be seen in churches, universities, government buildings and family homes throughout Atlantic provinces, Alberta and the State of Maine.

Paul was a man with conviction and was fiercely loyal to whom and what he loved, included the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (his favorite soccer team for you Canadians). He was arguably the teams number one fan and never missed a game or a chance to talk about a game.

Paul was also an active member of his community, spending much of his retirement volunteering at the Saint John Regional Hospital as a member of the “The Giggle Gang” clowning group, Heart Surgery Support Group and lending a hand wherever needed.

Paul is survived by his children Phillip (Chris) Blaney of Saint John and daughter Nicole (Steven) Yerxa of Canterbury; granddaughter Emily of Saint John; twin brother John (Rachel) Blaney of Wokingham, England and nephews John and Christopher Blaney of Wokingham, England.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646–2424). A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark’s United Church on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciated donations made to “The Give” SJRH or a local charity of one’s choice.
