Obituary for Mary Marjorie McFarlane

1921–2019
Mary Marjorie (Walsh) McFarlane, wife of the late Willard McFarlane of Coady Street, Miramichi, passed away at her residence on Friday, August 30th, 2019 at the age of 98. Born in Nelson–Miramichi, Mary was the daughter of the late Patrick and Sadie (Ritchie) Walsh.

Mary graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1939 and was a member of St. Patrick’s CWL and Friendly Neighbors Senior Citizens Group. Mary was a person of great faith, especially St. Anne.

Mary is survived by four sons: Paul (Brenda) of Nelson–Miramichi, NB, Bob (Linda) of Miramichi, NB, Mattie (Patsy) of Douglasfield, NB and Blair (Patricia) of Nelson–Miramichi, NB; four daughters: Carol Ann Howe (Donald) of Douglasfield, NB, Marilyn Mazerall (Jim) of Fredericton, NB, Maureen Dufort (Rick) of Winnipeg, MB and Donna Wait (John) of Fredericton, NB; daughter in law: Susan McFarlane; twenty three grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mary is predeceased by her parents: Patrick and Sadie (Ritchie) Walsh; husband: Willard McFarlane; two sons: Richard “Ricky” and Darrell; two sisters: Ethel and Nora; five brothers: Matthew, Andrew, John, James and George. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Visitation was held at Bell’s Funeral Home, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi on Tuesday, September 3rd from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Nelson on Wednesday, September 4th at 11 AM with Father John Keoughan officiating. Readers were: Granddaughters: Megan Wait, Christina Gillis and Melissa Deap and Eulogy was given by: Granddaughter: Melanie Courtney. Active pallbearers were: Colin Howe, Brandon McFarlane, Bradley Howe, Brent McFarlane, Matthew Mazerall and Alex Wait. Honorary pallbearers were: Zella Goguen, Ken Walsh, Laurie McFarlane, David McFarlane, David Gulliver, Jim Mazerall, Thomas Howe, Kara Lee McFarlane, Paula McFarlane and Melanie Courtney. Music was provided by: Carmel MacTavish and Lynn Doyle. Burial followed in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, in Mary’s memory, donations may be made to the Extra Mural Program.
