Obituary for Guerino DiBonaventura

1944 - 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Guerino DiBonaventura, 74, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton, on Sunday, September 8, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Elce, Abruzzo, Italy, on October 20, 1944, he was the beloved son of the late Annunziata DiSimone and Francesco DiBonaventura.

Guerino was the youngest of 11 children and lived in Italy until the age of 23. He moved to Canada living in Moncton and Ottawa before returning to Italy in 1976 to marry. Soon after, he settled in Moncton where he would raise his family.

Guerino was self-employed as a ceramic tile installer and concrete finisher. He loved his family dearly and time with family was his priority. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, making wine and sausages. All that knew him had a great respect for him. He lived his life with a very strong sense of value. He was a kind, caring and fun-loving person.

Guerino will be sadly missed by his wife of 43 years, Valentina (née Rotelli); his three children: Lisa (Rémi), Tina (Pierre) and Carlo (Shelby); his five grandchildren whom he adored: Bianca, Luca, Davio, Ariana and Alessio; his brother Mario; cousins; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and siblings, a nephew and two nieces predeceased him.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Unit 4A and of the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre for the great care Guerino received during his illness.

The family will receive condolences at the Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours are Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix Roman Catholic Church, 87 Murphy Avenue, Moncton, Tuesday, September 10 at 11 am. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.

In memory of Guerino, a contribution to the CHU Dumont Foundation would be appreciated. Words of comfort and donations may be made at www.frenettefuneralhome.com
