Obituary for Henry J. Cormier

1921– 2019
Henry (Hank) Cormier, age 97, passed away on September 10th at the Veteran’s Health Centre in Moncton. Hank was born in Breau Village, NB, December 30th, 1921. He was the son of the late Adele (Breau) and Alban Cormier.

He is survived by six children, son Claude (Jackie), daughters, Sherry Cormier (John Bishop), Kerry (Tink) Swetnam (Kieran Cogan), Kathy Cormier (Ray Soucie),Helen(Honey) Kelly(Jim), Sue Stratton and one sister, Dina(late Alphee) Arsenault, one sister–in–law, Arlene Cormier, many nieces and nephews, 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind special friend, Ella Oulton who brightened his life daily.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Joan (Davidson) Cormier, two sons–in–law, Jim Swetnam and Chris Stratton, as well as his parents, brothers Yvon, Tim, Tony, and sisters, Dorilla Black, Yollanda LeClair and Zella O’Dell.

Hank will be remembered as a man who always loved life and never missed an opportunity to learn new things. Up until very recently he maintained an active social life and especially enjoyed his daily road trips all over NB, NS and PE. Hank was a member of the Provo Corp, the RCMP and Moncton Police Force. He left the force to start his own trucking company, which he ran for many years. Later on he became the Sales Manager of Toys For Big Boys. Hank had many hobbies and interests, including fly fishing, and fly tying. He was a charter member of the Moncton Naturalists Club and an avid ham radio operator, which allowed him to make friends all over the world. Also, he was very proud of his many years in Scouting and had become a Gilwell Scout and District Scout Master. Most of all, Hank was proud of the family he and Joan raised together. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.

The family thanks the staff at the Veteran’s Center for all the wonderful care given to Hank during his stay there.

Funeral Mass to be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 43 Botsford St., Moncton, NB, on September 23rd at 11:00 am, immediately followed by a reception in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Hospital, St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church Building Fund or to a memorial of the donor’s choice.
