Obituary for Gordon Willden

1929 – 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Gordon Bernard Oland Willden, 89, of Moncton, on September 9, 2019 at The Moncton Hospital. He was born on November 18, 1929 in Hollywood, California, to Ernest Willden of Brockley, England, and Ella Oland of Halifax.

Gordon will be deeply missed by his wife, Constance (Connie) nee Comeau; his children: Diana Quartey (Gil), John (Maxime), Eric (Jayne) and Dorothy Wiebe (Gary); his nine grandchildren: Jonathan Fox, Victor Quartey, Chelsea Quartey, Sarah Doherty, Julie Chandler, Alex Willden, Kiana Wiebe, Jacob Wiebe, and Matthew Wiebe; his six great–grandchildren: Oliver, Holden, Leo, Keaton, Henry, and Beau; his three step–children: Kevin Frenette (Johanne), Janice Frenette, and Nancy Gatien (Greg); his four step–grandchildren: Max Frenette, Alex Frenette, Nicholas Frenette, and Beatrice Gatien; and his step–great–grandchildren: Grace Frenette and Henry Frenette; his brother, Vincent; as well as his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his first wife, Felice nee Herbin; and his siblings: Mary, John, Marion, Ernest and Isabel.

Gordon had a zest for life and felt compelled to improve the world in his own way, contributing to his community as a businessman, a member of the New Brunswick Legislature, a Knight of Columbus and a Right to Life supporter. He enjoyed quick wit and good humour and although he suffered poor hearing in his later years, he could always turn a phrase to make people smile. He loved a good meal and often rewarded the cook with a groan and exclamation of “gorgeous”! His dedication to his family and faith was always apparent in his blessings upon travellers, newborns and those within hugging distance! Gordon was an avid sailor, enjoying the wind and waves in Northumberland Strait on Mañana and beyond, on the tall ship Endeavour.

And now there remains faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Thank you Dad, we love you.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858–1900) on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton on Friday, September 13, at 4 pm. Reception will follow at Frenette Funeral Centre. Interment will be in Alderwood Cemetery, Riverview.

In memory of Gordon, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moncton Right to Life or the charity of your choice.Words of comfort and donations can be made at www.frenettefuneralhome.com
