Obituary for Helen Coster

May 14, 1924 – September 11, 2019
It is with heavy hearts the family of Helen Mary Coster, wife of the late Kenneth Coster, Sr. announces her passing on September 11, 2019 at The Moncton City Hospital. Born May 14, 1924 in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late Gladys (Smith) and Russell Thompson.

Although our guiding light has been extinguished, we will always remember the tremendous love she had for her family and friends.

Helen was the proud matriarch of the Coster family. Motherhood was her profession. She raised her family with love and pride. She truly devoted her entire life to her family and she excelled in her vocation. Helen taught love, religion and gentle kindness by example, which is now being passed on through the generations. Helen was known for her ability to whip up an astounding meal from nothing. No one ever missed a meal, went to bed or went home with an empty stomach; there was always something in the oven or on the stove and always pie, cake, cookies or squares to indulge her sweet tooth. Helen always welcomed visitors with open arms and enjoyed serving a cup of tea or coffee over a conversation. Helen enjoyed gardening, music and was an artist in her own way. She was a natural with babies and whenever they were around there was a definite twinkle in her eye. She attended St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Emma Savard (James) of Saint John, Marjorie Moore, Linda Cosman (Greg), Teri Muir (Philip), Deborah Fyffe, all of Moncton, Kimberly Coster of Saint John and one son, Wayne Coster (Lisette Paulin) of Moncton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Coster, Sr.; daughter, Kathy and son, Kenneth Coster, Jr.; sisters, Marjorie Pelley and Isabel Henley.

We wish to express our gratitude to Susan, Kelly and the Staff at Serenacare for the special care they provided to Mom. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass to celebrate and honour Helen’s life will be held from St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church (Queen and Botsford Streets) on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 11:00 am with Rev. Allison Carroll presiding. Reception in the Church Hall following Mass. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Friends of The Moncton Hospital would be appreciated. Online condolences for the family may be shared on Fergusons Funeral Home Facebook page or at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
