Obituary for Shirley Gordon

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Shirley Leona Gordon, wife of the late John Fraser Gordon of McKinleyville, NB, on September 13, 2019 at the age of 84. Shirley passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born in Craigville, NB on March 2, 1935, the daughter of the late Howard and Leona (Murphy) Matchett. Shirley was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, McKinleyville.

She was a homemaker and an avid baker. She enjoyed local bingo and music jam sessions. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humour and large family gatherings.

She is survived by: two sons: John (Kathy) of Fredericton, NB; Jason (Nancy) of McKinleyville, NB; six daughters: Leona of Nelson Miramichi, NB; Wanda (Russell) of McKinleyville, NB; Susan (Douglas) of Miramichi, NB; Dolly (Danny) of McKinleyville, NB; Bonnie (Merle) of Blackville, NB; Cathy (Steve) of Iqaluit; one sister: Alice (Bill) of Ontario; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four half– brothers and two half– sisters.

Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by: sisters: Kathleen Doyle (Wilbert), Joyce Mowbray (Leon), Lorna Searle (Parkin); brothers: William (Marion), Blair (Jean), Leslie (Catherine); one grandson: Mitchell Curtis; three half–brothers and two half–sisters.

At Shirley’s request there will be no visitation. A public graveside service will be held at McKinleyville/Cochraneville Cemetery on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 1PM with Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight officiating. For those who wish to pay their respects, following the service the family will be receiving friends and family at Shirley’s home, 2325 Route 118, McKinleyville, NB.

In Shirley’s memory, donations may be made to the NB Extra Mural Program or the Local Red Cross.
