Obituary for Ethel "Effie" McAuliffe

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ethel “Effie” May McAuliffe age 92, loving wife of the late Gregory McAuliffe of 54 years, announces her peaceful passing that occurred on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on December 15th, 1926 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late James and Levina (Reid) McCracken.

Effie graduated from Modern Buisness College in 1947, later working for NB Tel, NB Power and Saint John Ship Building. Effie was a dedicated CWL member of St. Joseph's Church, voulunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Soup Kitchen; She was a former member of the Sea Belles and violinist with the Park Avenue Fiddlers. Effie was known for her kindess and great sense of humour. She especially loved music, dancing and time spent in the yard with her beloved German Shepherd Cherokee.

She is survived by her daughter Susan McAuliffe and son Joseph “Joe” McAuliffe; feline companion Oscar and grand dog Raffie; several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers William and James and sisters Agnes and Elizabeth.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's cemetery.
