Obituary for David Wagener

The passing of Dr. David Geoffrey Raven Wagener of Limekiln, NB, husband of Sheelah (Whetter) Wagener occurred on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, NB, surrounded by family. Born on August 23, 1931 in London, England, he was the son of the late Kurt and Florence (Herron) Wagener.

David was a family physician in Stanley, NB, for many years. He was a member of St. Thomas Anglican Church, Stanley, NB.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by his daughters, Ravenna Wilson (Bill) of Mount Tremblant, QC and Sharon Wagener (Dale) of Woodstock, NB; son, David Wagener (Annie) of Limekiln, NB; grandchildren, Benjamin (Jennifer) and Bethany; great grandchildren, Declan, Camden and Lachlan.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Jeremy.

He was an outgoing, athletic, compassionate family doctor with a great sense of humour, a green thumb, and great storytelling ability. Born August 23, 1931 in Southwalk, London U.K. Evacuated to the Lake District during World War II, he attended Trinity College Dublin and qualified as a medical doctor. After serving as an officer in the Royal Navy he and family emigrated to Canada in 1968. He practiced in Sackville and Stanley, New Brunswick. He served as York County Coroner for several years while in Stanley. He retired in Limekiln until moving to Riverside Court. His family would like to thank the staff at Riverside Court and the Upper River Valley Hospital during his later years and final days.

There will be a Private Graveside Service at St. Thomas Anglican Cemetery.
