Obituary for Alan Robert McLure

1963 - 2019
A. Robert McLure of Riverview, M.Eng., P.Eng, a retired Associate/VP of Atlantic Hatch Mott MacDonald. A loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, mentor, and coach. Rob passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on September 17, 2019. Born in Summerside, PE, he was the son of the late Carl and Evelyn (Stewart) McLure.

Rob was a born leader, successful and well-known engineer. He lived a full life despite having health challenges along the way. Rob was energetic, optimistic and committed in everything he was involved with. His passion inspired many people throughout his life. He was a mentor to all, whether it be through family, hockey, golf or work. He saw the best in people and tried to help them reach their full potential. He was a true engineer thru and thru, demonstrated by always following a plan and being creative in his problem solving.

Rob received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from UNB Fredericton (1986) and a Masters in Engineering (1991), specializing in pavements and infrastructure management & assessment. He had been involved as a consulting engineer since 1984 and for the last 30 years has worked in the planning, design and implementation of transportation and urban infrastructure projects. He was a regional chair of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Professional Engineers District Branch. He was a Director with the South Eastern NB Economic Commission (Enterprise Greater Moncton).

Rob has been a dedicated volunteer for over 35 years. He has given back many times over, to the Riverview Minor Hockey Club. He was a Coach, Mentor, Executive Member, Development Chair, Tournament Volunteer, Referee, Organizer, Parent, Club President and most recently Technical Director. Rob was also a member of the Northumberland Links Golf Course since 1979 and served as a board member and Treasurer. Rob was also a member of the Central United Church.

He loved anything to do with hockey, boating, and golfing, especially with Susan and/or his three buddies “The Mulligans”. Rob loved to spend his summer at the cottage with his family and friends. He always had projects on the go, big or small, as he was a jack of all trades. He was a true believer in lifetime learning, and was a passionate “die hard” Leaf’s fan.

Rob will be sadly missed by his cherished wife of 33 years, Susan; his pride and joy Michael and Alex; his loving sister Janice (Doug) White. His sister-in-law Karen (Chris) and his nephews Tyler and Justin Mitton, who were an extension of his own family. He is also survived by his nephew Nicholas (Krystal) White, great-niece Hannah White and aunts, cousins and special friends.

Visitation will take place on Saturday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center 330 Whitepine Rd, Riverview (869-2007), with a service celebrating Rob’s life to take place on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at 4:00PM at the Byron Dobson Arena (Upper level) 55 Biggs Dr, Riverview. Burial to take place at a later date at the Fair Haven Cemetery.

In honor of Rob the family would encourage you to donate blood, or donations can be made to Pro Kids.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr Giberson, the ICU, the 4200 and 5600 Units at the Moncton Hospital
