Obituary for Edna Newman

The passing of Edna “Shirley” Newman of Fredericton, NB, wife of Ronald Newman occurred on Thursday, September 19, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. Born on February 17, 1935 in London, England, she was the daughter of the late William and Ivy (Herbert) Preston. Shirley lived a wonderful life, enjoying winters in Florida, spending time with the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Sisters, Silver Dophins swimming group and her beloved family. She was a member of Kingsley United Church. She will be remembered for her caring demeanour, spunky attitude and infamous smartie jar.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, Shirley is survived by her daughters, Jane McKnight (Bill Trewin), Ruth Vaughan (Gilles Guenette) and Judith Sorensen (Andrew); eight granddaughters, Kristin, Kelsey, Abby, Hayley, Michaela, Alex, Emilly and Olivia; eight great grandchildren; one nephew. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Tony and one nephew.

There will be no visitation by request. A Memorial Service will take place from the Kingsley United Church on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 11 am with Rev. Joanne Barr officiating. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Kingsley United Church or the CNIB. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
