Obituary for Zaida Quinn

With sadness the family of Zaida L. (Kitchen) Quinn announce that she passed away on September 17, 2019, at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Prince William, York County, N.B., on September 19, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Harold Cecil and Jennie May (Armstrong) Kitchen.

Zaida was among the first graduating classes at Harvey Regional High School. After the death of her father, the family moved to Saint John, where she began training at the Saint John School of Nursing. It was at that time she met her future husband of 63 years, Warren Patrick Quinn. Not well-suited for a career in nursing, she moved into the field of business, and worked in the credit department of Calp's and Zellers Ltd. She was the credit manager at the Parkway Mall Zellers when it opened.

After she and Warren retired they spent many happy years as "snow birds," spending their winters in Haines City, Florida, and their summers in their native New Brunswick. She loved playing bingo and cards (especially bridge), and was a skilled organizer of holiday dinners, often for more than 300 people, at the social club in Lake Region Park in Florida.

Besides her husband Warren, Zaida is survived by her son Paul (Damares) of Bedford, N.S., and her daughter Lori (Chris) Tait of Quispamsis; her six grandchildren: Linnet Quinn of Lower Sackville, N.S., Patrick Quinn of Milford, N.S., Bryan Tait of Fredericton, Jason Tait of Montreal, Matthew Tait of Quispamsis and Sean Tait of Ajax, Ont. She is also survived by her brother Kenneth Kitchen (Mary-Lou) of London, Ont.; and her sister-in-law, Beverley Bogle of Sauble Beach, Ont., as well as several nieces and nephews.

Zaida was predeceased by her parents, her brother Ronald, sister Velma Reid and her brother-in-law Otty Reid.

Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, (849-2119). In keeping with Zaida's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations made in memory of Zaida may be made to Diabetes Canada, Saint John SPCA or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick. Online condolences may be made at www.KennebecasisFH.com.
