Obituary for Michael Cody

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Papa/Grandpapa, brother, Pastor, and friend, Michael Thomas Cody, in the early hours of Saturday, September 21, 2019, with his daughters at his side.

Born on February 25, 1952 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Michael is survived by his former spouse, Cathy Cody, beloved children, Jessica Bleasdale (Chad and sons River and Rainn), Jillian Cody (Rob and son Jack), Jocelyn Parker (Shaun and grand dog Chase), and baby Jacklyn Burns (Ryan and daughters Ava, Penelope and Willow). He leaves behind his ever-loving sister, Frannie, brothers Paul (Liz), Peter (Tara), Laurence (Debbie), and sisters-in-law Linda and Patti, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Michael was predeceased by his father, John Bernard Cody, mother, Mildred Mary Pearl Cody (Langille), and brothers John and Chris.

A lover of sports and the outdoors, Mike could often be found hunting along the Nashwaak, or fishing the Miramichi and Restigouche Rivers. His younger years were enjoyed at the camp, on the ball field and local rink. He will always be remembered as a diehard Blackhawks fan!

He directed his life toward his faith, and found much satisfaction and fulfillment in his work with Prison Christian Ministries. He devoted much time to ministering to those in need, in hospitals, churches, jails, addiction centre’s, homeless shelters and halfway houses. His healing work has taken him as far as Africa.

His spirituality provided him comfort and peace in his final days, on his most important journey.

Watch over us, Dad. You’re with God now.

Visitations will be held at York Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 24, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, September 25, at 2pm, at Word of Faith Church in Maugerville officiating by Pastor Gary Bitely. Following the funeral, we invite guests to a Celebration of LIFE at York Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Prison Christian Ministries and Word of Faith Church. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
