Obituary for Mary Eileen Kenny

June 24, 1929–September 20, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Eileen Kenny (nee McGloan) on September 20, 2019 with family by her side.

Affectionately known as ‘Cher’ to her friends and family, she was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick and moved to Montreal after marrying John Desmond Kenny in 1955. They lived and raised their family in Montreal until 1982 when they relocated to Calgary

Mary Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Des, in 2013. She will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren; Kevin Kenny and Cindy Doucette, Allison, Erin and Craig of Toronto; Stephen and Elaine Kenny, Renee, Denise, Danielle and great–granddaughter Abby, of Calgary; Maura Kenny, Mary, Ann Marie and Emma Milner of Winnipeg, John Kenny and Deirdre Getty, Bryan, Elliott and Claire of Calgary; Tom Kenny, Meara and Broghan, also of Calgary. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Sr. Ann Marie McGloan of the Sisters of Charity in Saint John, and Maura and brother–in–law Gerald Keenan of Fredericton, New Brunswick. She was preceded in death by her brother, Tom, and sister–in–law, Marilyn McGloan. She will also be missed by her sister and brother–in–law, Noreen and Paul Tenechuk of Kelowna. Mary Eileen has numerous nieces, nephews and their children whom she loved immensely.

Cher had many close friends that cared about her deeply and will be forever in their thoughts. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church (5504 20 St. SW) on October 4, 2019 at 11:00am with Rev. Dominic Nguyen presiding. A reception will follow in St. James’ Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greater Saint John Community Foundation – The Thomas L. McGloan Fund, or the Canadian Cancer Society will be greatly appreciated by the family. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Mary’s family through www.evanjstrong.com.

Arrangements in care of Evan J. Strong Funeral Services. (403) 265–1199
