Obituary for Doreen Harkiolakis

With heavy hearts, the family of Doreen Elizabeth (Mitchell) Harkiolakis announces her passing on October 9, 2019, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Her loving family were by her side. She was born in Saint John, NB, on June 25, 1943, to the late John and Mary (Kelly) Mitchell. She was the loving wife to husband, Michael.

Doreen was a homecare worker for many years, providing comfort and compassion to others. She retired from the profession twenty years ago to do the things she truly enjoyed. She loved to fish, play bingo, care for pets, swim, and follow psychic mediums. She was superstitious, especially on Friday the 13th when she refused to allow her children outside, and could float better than anyone else. Also, she was a huge Elvis fan. Doreen and Michael had the opportunity to travel to Greece many times over the years, and she often remarked that she would love to stay.

But, Doreen loved nothing more than her children and grandchildren, the pride and joy of her life. She was a devoted grandmother, not the type to knit slippers, but you always knew how much she loved you. She was one of a kind and will be forever missed.

In addition to her husband Michael, she is survived by her children, Angelo (Diane), John (Nancy Lynk), Katrina (Cory) Thorne and Margaret (Ron) Fairweather; grandchildren, Caitlind, Christopher, Brittney, Arianna, Kaiden, Shasta and Matthew; brothers John (Geraldine) and Douglas (Tina) Mitchell and sister Sandra (Roger) Mitchell, along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Mary Mitchell and Ann Marie Holyoke.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11am from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. A private family interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery will be held at a later date.

For those who wish, memorial donations made in Doreen’s memory made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. To sign the guestbook, place a condolence or light a virtual candle, please visit www.fundyfuneralhome.com
