Obituary for Sheelah Wagener

With appreciation for a lifetime of memories, the family of Sheelah Wagener announces her peaceful passing at Riverside Court Retirement Residence on Friday, October 18, 2019. Sheelah was born in 1936 in Cornwall, England to parents Arthur and Moira Whetter and was the oldest of three children, Michael (deceased) and John.

She attended the University College Dublin where she attained her masters degree in History and met the love of her life, David Wagener, who she later married. Gifted with language and never without book in hand, Sheelah taught drama and music in England before emigrating to Canada with her young family in 1968, where she taught for two years in Sackville, New Brunswick. Resettling in Stanley, New Brunswick, she stayed active in the community by participating in Meals on Wheels, the Anglican Church Choir, and cancer patient counselling amongst others activities and programs. In her later years, she created a slice of England in Stanley by hosting tourists into the Cornish Corner Inn and Restaurant. She was an amazing mother dedicated to her family and supported them faithfully. Sheelah and David spent her last years at Riverside Court in Woodstock, New Brunswick.

Predeceased by her youngest son, Jeremy (2003) and recently by her husband, David (2019).

She is survived by her children, David (Annie) Limekiln, New Brunswick, Ravenna (Bill) Mont-Tremblant, Québec and Sharon (Dale) Woodstock, New Brunswick; grandchildren, Benjamin (Jennifer) and Bethany; great-grandchildren Declan, Camden and Lachlan.

Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Riverside Court for their care and support.

There will be a private graveside service at the St. Thomas Anglican Cemetery.

Remembrances can be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, and personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
