Obituary for Theresa McManus

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Theresa Frances McManus at Hospice House Fredericton on October 20, 2019. Mom was born on August 2, 1928 in St Stephen New Brunswick to Charles and Marion (Barter) Burns. She grew up in Fredericton, and in 1948 married Terence (Terry) McManus, who predeceased her in 2012.

Mom enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry that spanned 37 years. She and Dad were active in the dance community, enjoying many years square dancing with the Elm Tree Squares and round dancing with the Capital City Rounders. Mom later took up clogging and line dancing with the Triple “C” Cloggers, Riverboat Stompers and Northern Lights Line Dancers. Mom was also an enthusiastic bridge player and enjoyed both these pastimes well into her eighties. For many years both Mom and Dad loved working in their beautiful flower gardens that surrounded their home.

Mom leaves behind her three daughters, Ann Leggett (Glen), Elaine McManus and Judy Wood; four grandchildren, Brian Leggett (Jessica Ellis), Ryan Bruce (Kazumi), Stefanie Doheny (Allan) and Jaclyn Wood (Mike Finnie); and six great-grandchildren, Baylee and Brady Leggett, Saila Bruce, Faye Doheny and Macie and Emily Finnie. She is survived by her sisters, Shirley Ogilvie (Jerry) and Mary Reesor; sisters-in-law, Rita Burns, Monica Dinsmore (Don) and Lorraine McManus; and several nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn is her best friend of 64 years Patricia (Pat) Dickeson, family friend Susan Holland and special niece Debbie Heustis.

She was predeceased by her brothers, James (Jim) and Charles (Bud); brothers-in-law David Reesor, Mark McManus and Allison McManus; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Burns and Joan Heustis.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at McAdam’s Funeral Home from 1pm to 3 pm. The funeral service will follow at 3pm. Interment will be held in Hermitage Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.mcadamsfh.com
